Get Up and Knock Your Giants Down
Author: Pat Aman…
Ephesians 6:10-18,says:”Finally, be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything,to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds! With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.
Everyone felt afraid of the Philistine giant, Goliath. He towered over nine feet tall. He wore a bronze helmet, bronze leg plates, and a bronze javelin was strapped to his back. In his huge hand, he carried a spear. The point alone possibly weighed about twenty pounds. His shield bearer walked or ran before him. Goliath told David to come here and I will give your flesh to the birds of the air and the beasts of the field.
David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with a sword, spear and javelin, but I come in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.” I Samuel 17:44
Before this, young David had taken his staff in hand, stooped down, and picked up five smooth stones and placed them in a pouch. With a Shepherd’s staff in one hand and a sling in the other he approached the giant. With one stone He flung the stone, it hit Goliath in the head and killed him.
The key to this scripture is He came in the name of the Lord. What are the giants in your life?
How can God help you overcome them?
I believe it is good not only to pray, but to turn to His Word for the answers.
There are directions and power in prayer and God’s Word.
We must remember what,
Philippians 2:10-11, says….
that in the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven and things on earth and things under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
God made his name greater than every other name so that every knee will bow to the name of Jesus.
Luke 10:17 – “And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.”
A person’s name is a summary of his or her character. Whenever a name is mentioned ,a demand is made on the power inherent in that name. Therefore, whenever the name of Jesus Christ was mentioned by the disciples it was as though Jesus was present in their midst in the fullness of His almighty power . Demons had no option but to obey. It was the power in the name of Jesus and the disciples’ faith that made the demons subject unto the disciples.
Whatever these giants are in our lives, we must not run from them. We must face them head-on as David did with Goliath. Put on your spiritual armor and stand firm, unafraid, trusting God for strength. The exciting thing about all this is when we put on the full armor of God and obey Him, then we can stand back, call TIMBERRRR– and watch the giant fall, in the mighty name of Jesus!
For we have power over our enemies, Satan and every demon of hell, by the power of the name of Jesus.
