What is your Giants?

What is your Giants?
Author: Pat AH Aman

Let’s take a moment to talk about giants that we may have in our lives.

Sometimes we let things overwhelm us and not let God take care of them.

I wonder if David even felt afraid for just a second of the Philistine giant, Goliath, in his life. Goliath who was three to four times the height of David. He was wearing at least 278 pounds of Armor besides his own big body which could have weighed 400-600 pounds, being well over 13 feet tall. He wore a bronze helmet, bronze leg plates, and a bronze javelined was strapped to his back. In his huge hand, he carried a spear. The point alone possibly weighed about twenty pounds. Goliath had a armor barrier who bare his shield that walked before him.

Goliath told David to come here and I will give your flesh to the birds of the air and the beasts of the field. David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with a sword, spear and javelin, but I come in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.”

1 Samuel 17:44 “Come here,” he said, “and I’ll give your flesh to the birds of the air and the beasts of the field!

Before this, young David had taken his staff in hand, stooped down, and picked up five smooth stones and placed them in a pouch.

1 Samuel 17:40 Then he took his staff in his hand, chose five smooth stones from the stream, put them in the pouch of his shepherd’s bag and, with his sling in his hand, approached the Philistine.
With a Shepherd’s staff in one hand and a sling in the other he approached the giant. With one stone He flung the stone, it hit Goliath in the head and killed him.

The key to this scripture is He came in the name of the Lord.

What are the giants in your life?

How can God help you overcome them?

I believe it is good not only to pray, but to turn to His Word for the answers.
There are directions and power in prayer and God’s Word.

Whatever these giants are in our lives, we must not run from them. We must face them head-on as David did with Goliath. Put on your spiritual armor and stand firm, unafraid, trusting God for strength.

The exciting thing about all this is when we put on the full armor of God and obey Him, then we can stand back, call TIMBERRRR– and watch the giant fall!

“God has given us the armor to dress in daily. So put it on and watch the giants in your life fall.” Pastor Pat Aman

Ephesians 6:10.Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.

  1. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.
  2. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
  3. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.
  4. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place,
15.and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace
  5. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.
  6. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
  7. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.

We as children of Father God need to learn to be overcomers. We must stop acting like defeated children.

Father God’s Word is what we stand on.

Revelation 12:11 They (that is you and me) triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.

Catch The Ball

Catch The Ball
Author: Pat Aman

I pray everyone had a blessed weekend. We have stayed inside this weekend except for attending church. Even after church we decided to get us a Jersey Mike’s Sub, to bring home to eat.

Now on with the devotional. After I graduated from high school, I immediately started college. But, at that time in my life college was not what I needed. So I returned home and started to work at State Farm Insurance where I worked for five years.

Now I have gone back through the years and received a couple degrees, but to be honest, if it is not the Bible, I have a hard time learning subjects that do not interest me.

Anyway, during the time I worked at State Farm, I also played softball with the youth at church and also played on the Antioch Baptist Church’s girls softball team. Yes, I was once able to play softball. I was not bad either.

I was the catcher. Do not let anyone tell you that is a easy job. You have to keep the pitcher going and keep home plate covered. You are always on the move.

I remember one time we were playing a team that had a girl who was not little. About 5’10” and way over 200 pounds. Oh yea, I was skinny at that time, by the way. I was 5’5” and weight about 115.

That girl hit the ball and started running. When she came around third base, I knew I had to cover home plate. The ball came in field. The pitcher, whom we called PeeWee, caught the ball and turned. I knew what was next. Out of the side of my left eye, I saw a solid mass of human coming toward me. And as I lifted my glove, I saw the ball leaving PeeWee’s hand coming to me. Everyone was shouting. I was sweating. The ball hit my glove just as the runner was coming into the home plate. I had my hand on the ball. Down I went to get her out before she touch base..

Yes, I got her out, but then I flew through the air when her body came into contact of mine. But I never let go of that ball. When I hit the ground it about knock the breathe out of me. I laid there stunned, but I never let go of that ball. When I got up, I hollowed, just as everyone did. I not only got her out, but we won the game.

Now you do know there is a sermon in this?

See sometimes, satan comes at us with a blow that may knock us down. Even knock the breathe out of us. We can decide to stay down and tuck our tail between out legs and mournfully sneak away, hoping he does not come after us, or we can get up and hollar as we say in Louisiana, and praise the Lord.

We can tell satan to get off our back and out of our face. We can remind him of his future. We can strike him out and win the game.

(I John 4:4) says, “You are of God little children, and have overcome them. For greater is He that is in you, then he that is in the world.”

In verse 3, it talks about people having a evil nature are spirit, that is what verse 3 is talking about when it says, “and have overcome them.” If you are a child of God, you are overcomers. You do not need to let satan get you down anymore. Stand tall. Put your armour on. Catch that ball, and strike that devil out.

For greater is He that is in you, then he that is in the world.

I heard a song scanning stations while my husband was ordering our sub sandwiches. I just laughed.

But, it said a lot.

“If you’re goin’ through hell keep on going
Don’t slow down if you’re scared don’t show it
You might get out before the devil even knows you’re there

I’ve been deep down in that darkness
I’ve been down to my last match
Felt a hundred different demons breathin’ fire down my back
And I knew that if I stumbled I’d fall right into the trap
That they were layin’

But the good news is there’s angels everywhere out on the street
Holdin’ out a hand to pull you back up on your feet
The one’s that you’ve been draggin’ for so long
You’re on your knees might as well be prayin’
Guess what I’m sayin’

[Chorus]

If you’re goin’ through hell keep on going
Don’t slow down if you’re scared don’t show it
You might get out before the devil even knows you’re there
Yeah if you’re goin’ through hell keep on movin’
Face that fire walk right through it
You might get out before the devil even knows you’re there.” Writer(s): Berg David A, Tate Sam M, Wright Kathleen Ann

In other words, “catch that fast ball and hold on…. strike that devil out….”

“Does God Have Your All;Your Complete Sacrifice?”

“Does God Have Your All;
Your Complete Sacrifice?”
Author: Pat AH Aman

“Quote for Today”
“When you seek after your own carnal ambitions, you will eventually fail. When you seek after God’s ambitions for your life, you will be blessed.”

“Then the angel of the Lord called again to Abraham from heaven, ‘This is what the Lord says: Because you have obeyed Me and have not withheld even your beloved son, I swear by My own self that I will bless you richly. I will multiply your descendants into countless millions, like the stars of the sky and the sand on the seashore. They will conquer their enemies, and through your descendants, all the nations of the earth will be blessed – all because you have obeyed Me.” Genesis 22:15-18

God gives us many tests, commonly called trials, to strengthen our faith and character. These tests also give us the opportunity to obey God and develop a closer relationship to Him and to show our love for Him. Difficult circumstances act as a refining fire in our lives. As Abraham was to learn, sometimes obeying God is a struggle because it might mean giving up something we truly want. We should not expect to receive God’s greatest blessings, unless we are willing to endure God’s greatest tests.

I have received so many e-mails, and prayer request from people in the last two months who feel like they are going through so much in their lives. And according to their testimonies, they are.

Joe and myself have gone through so many bumps at times, but we started to see the light when we put our eyes back on Jesus.

How did we manage and continue to manage? We keep our eyes on the one who was in charge, (God).

You must also keep your eyes focus, your heart continually Praising God, you mind set on the things of God, and your spirit must be sitting before the Presence of God.

Let’s look at the story of Abraham and Isaac together. Let’s learn from the man of Faith. Then let’s ask God to help us to be strong and let our faith grow. *

God knew how much Abraham loved his son Isaac. He was the child God had promised. As Isaac grew, Abraham loved his son even more. Abraham knew that someday, when Isaac became a man, he would marry and have children of his own. These children would grow up and have children of their own. Therefore, through Isaac, Abraham would become the father to many nations just as God had promised

Abraham taught Isaac to love God and to serve Him with all his heart. This pleased the Lord. From the days of Adam, all of God’s prophets offered animal sacrifices as they were commanded by God. Perhaps, Abraham took Isaac when he offered his sacrifices to God to teach him how it should be done. Also, Abraham probably explained to Isaac that God would accept the sacrifice as a gift, and He would hear their prayers if their offerings were made from the heart.

Before God was to make Abraham a great nation, He wanted to test Abraham’s love for Him. One day God called out to Abraham, calling him by name, “Abraham!”

See, God wants to make us a great disciple for Him. He wants to promote us, to a higher calling. If you are in the Ministry, God want to enlarge your Ministry.

Abraham answered quickly, “Here I am Lord.”

God then gave to Abraham a commandment that was very difficult to fulfill. God commanded Abraham saying, “Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love so much. Go into the land of Moriah. Give him back to Me as a burnt offering. I will show you the place to build an altar.”

Yes, I know just as you have, God has allowed and even asked us to do things for Him, that we did not understand.

How surprised was Abraham! He did not understand why God had asked him to do this. God had promised to make his descendants into a great nation through Isaac. Abraham wondered how God could keep His promise if Isaac were to be sacrificed. He did not want to sacrifice his only son. However, because Abraham loved God, he would obey.

How much do you love God? Is He first in your life?

Early the next morning, Abraham cut some wood, and prepared everything necessary for the sacrifice. He then loaded up a donkey and took with him Isaac and two servants. Together, they set off on a three-day journey to the place God had shown to Abraham. When the night came, they slept under some trees.

They traveled for two days. Finally, on the third day, Abraham looked in the distance and saw a lofty mountain. He recognized this as the place where God wanted the altar built. When they arrived at the base of the mountain, Abraham told his servants, “Stay here with the donkey while Isaac and I go to worship. We will come right back.” Isaac carried the wood that had been brought for the offering. Abraham carried the vessel of fire and the knife. Together, they began to climb the tall mountain.

Maybe even you have been waiting years, and have to travel life’s not to easy road, to get to where you need to be, so you can do God’s Work. You have finally reach the point of no return, and you have sacrificed it all

As they were climbing, Isaac wondered why his father had not brought a lamb for an offering. Isaac asked, “Father, we have the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for the offering?”

I know you have even asked God, Why. You have even said, “God I have given everything for you.” Just as Isaac said, “Father, we have the fire and wood, but where is the sacrifice?” Maybe you have given the wood and fire in your life, but have you made that complete sacrifice? Have you given God your everything?

Abraham answered, “God will provide the lamb for the offering, my son.”

Once they had reached the place that God had chosen for the sacrifice, Abraham and Isaac built an altar. Carefully, they placed the wood on it. When all was ready for the sacrifice, Abraham explained to Isaac that he was to be the sacrifice. Feeling sad, yet full of faith in God, Abraham tied Isaac’s hands and feet, and placed him upon the altar. Abraham held the knife in his hand. He raised the knife in the air, and just as he was ready to lower the knife to offer his son as a sacrifice to God, the voice of an angel called out from heaven, “Abraham! Abraham!”

Yes, you have felt like Abraham wondering why? But you have also felt like Isaac, you have felt that your hands and your whole being was tied. Maybe you felt that people have kept you from doing God’s Work. Maybe you have felt you had not had the opportunity, that you have seen other have. Well, my dear friend you have. No one can stop you from preaching God’s Word. You just must find a street corner and start doing it.

“Here I am,” he replied.

When you finally say, “Here I am, Lord,” you better get ready, because God is going to do mighty things in your life. God is going to say, “My child that’s all I wanted you to do, is just to be willing to give me everything.

“Do not lay a hand on the boy,” the angel said. “Now I know you love God more than your own son. Untie his hands and feet and let him go.” How relieved and how happy was Abraham!

When you do finally give you all to God, He will turn things around for you. And if you are a Minister, He will say to everyone and everything, including satan, “Do not lay a hand on My child or the work I have given him/her to do. Nothing will be able to stop you, hurt you, are lay a hand on what God gives you.

At that moment, Abraham heard a sound. He looked toward the sound and saw a ram, caught by his horns, in the bushes. The Lord had provided a sacrifice just as Abraham had told Isaac He would. Abraham took the ram and offered it on the altar in place of his son Isaac.

Again, the angel called from heaven to Abraham. The angel, speaking for the Lord said, “Because you were willing to give Me your dearly beloved son, I will surely bless you, and I will make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as many as the sands on the seashore. Through you, I will bless all the nations of the earth because you have obeyed My voice.”

See God just wants to know that He has our all. That every inch of us belongs to Him. And when this happens watch out, for you will not believe the Ministry that you will have.

How happy were both father and son as they went down the mountain! Abraham knew he had pleased God. Isaac knew that his life was precious to the Lord. Abraham called this place, “the Lord provides.” Together, they returned to the servants who were waiting with the donkey. Then, they all returned to their home at Beersheba.

I myself in reading these scriptures wonder? Did Abraham have the Faith to know the outcome?

For Abraham told his servants in the scriptures, “stay here while Isaac and I go worship, WE will be back soon!”

And Abraham told Isaac, when Isaac said, Father, we have the fire and wood, but where is the Sacrifice?” Abraham immediately replied, “son, God will provide the sacrifice.”

What great faith to know that our Father God already knows the outcome when we turn our life over to Him completely.

When We Are Drained Down To Our Bones

When We Are Drained Down To Our Bones
Author: Pastor Pat Aman

Some days it just seems we get drained out. That has just how I have felt for a few weeks. And please do not tell me you have never felt that way! If you do I will come pray for you.

Your know at first we try to be strong; but then, as the stress continues, we find ourselves becoming fatigued and even to the point we would like to run away somewhere and scream.

It is at those moments that many of us begin to believe that our time of situation almost beyond hope.

I know I as for myself, I sometimes feel like Jeremiah in the Bible. He was called the “weeping prophet”, and was one of the major prophets of the Hebrew Bible. According to Jewish tradition, Jeremiah authored the Books of Jeremiah, Kings and Lamentation.

Jeremiah talks to Father God about why?

“You are always righteous, Lord, when I bring a case before you. Yet I would speak with you about your justice: Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why do all the faithless live at ease? You have planted them, and they have taken root; they grow and bear fruit. You are always on their lips but far from their hearts. Yet you know me, Lord; you see me and test my thoughts about you. Drag them off like sheep to be butchered! Set them apart for the day of slaughter! How long will the land lie parched and the grass in every field be withered? Because those who live in it are wicked, the animals and birds have perished. Moreover, the people are saying, “He will not see what happens to us.” “If you have raced with men on foot and they have worn you out, how can you compete with horses? If you stumble in safe country, how will you manage in the thickets by the Jordan?” Jeremiah‬ ‭12:1-5‬ ‭

Gracious, right now I can see Father God saying, “I see, an I know the outcome. So, stop wearing yourself out. You just keep going forward and I will handle all your life’s ups and downs. If life is wearing you out now, how are you going to handle the abundance of blessings I have in store for you.?

Now of course we do know these scriptures are referring to Israel.

But, as I read them I feel Father God was speaking to me.

(Please read. the entire chapter 12 of Jeremiah, to learn more about Israel and any nation that does not obey the commandments of Father God. There had never been a nation that had ever experienced more sorrow than the nation of Israel.)

But you know in times of struggle, when we wondered – “Does God still care for us? Has He forgotten us? Is there no hope?” Yet the Lord has said to His people –

“Why do you say, O Jacob, and speak, O Israel, ‘My way is hidden from the Lord, and my right is disregarded by my God’? Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted…but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:27-31

Please remember that Father God never grows tired or weary and He is always able to provide the strength we need.

So, when you feel you are about to fall flat on your face, that is when Father God can pick you up and turn your situation around.

Discombobulated

Coffee With A Little Spice Of Life

(Nehemiah 8:10) “The Joy Of The Lord, Is Your Strength.”

(Proverbs 17:22) “A Merry Heart Does Good, Like Medicine, But A Broken Spirit Dries The Bones.”

March 28, 2018

I tell everyone I was born a Louisiana Cajun with a little spice.
Raised as a Georgia Peach so I would be a little sweet and nice.
But I married a North Carolina Tarheel who made my life just right.
So, I guess you can say, “She is a little bit of everything.”

I pray that each of you enjoy this testimony book. You will read devotional messages, poems, and even a few spicy recipes. You will soon find out that in the book I just talk directly about life and the ministry that God has allowed my husband Joe and I to honor Him.

I am just like many of you. Some days are just wonderful, and some days, I want to go back to bed. Some days just like you my devotion time may have been short. Some days it might have been longer. I think it all comes down to how much time do you spend with God and His Word.

I have been preaching and sharing God’s Word since I was ten years old. I could write this book telling you how to solve all you daily cares and concerns, but, it really would be unfair to you. So, I am just sharing daily things I have gone through, and how when I allowed God to handle them, things were a lot better.

Through these devotionals I pray you will find out that in having an intimate relationship with our Heavenly Father, daily, helps us in our growth and walk.
It makes those good days better, and those not so good days, so much easier to handle, because we learn that if we let God handle them, everything will be alright.

Maybe I can share a few things that will help you in your daily walk.

I dedicate this book to God first and foremost. Then to my husband Joe and our daughters Tara and Anna. And to my son-in-law Will who has been a blessing to our lives. Without their encouragement, I would have never been able to bring to each of you just a few of the 3000 devotions that I have written since, 1986.

All scriptures are taken from the NKJB, unless noted.

Discombobulated
Author: Pat Aman October 14, 1996

Well, all I can say is when I finish this devotion, you will think that I need to go to a doctor for sure.

I was watching the end of a “Tammy” movie today. If you are my age or older, which we will not go there, today. But if you are you will remember the movies, Tammy and the Doctor, Tammy and the Millionaire, Tammy and the Professor.

Tammy was a young lady raised on a river boat by her grandfather. Schoolin as they called it, was not in grammar. But I soon found out she was smarter than I thought.

She said a word in the movie today that caught my attention. She said, “Lordy, I am just discombobulated”. Why this caught my attention beats me. Maybe I need to get out more.

I knew right off that Mr. Webster would not have the definition to this word, but I decided to look it up anyway. I found discontinued, discontent, discomfort, huh, discomfort, and then suddenly there is was discombobulated. The Merriam-Webster had the word, meaning upset, confused, or etc.

Anyway, a thought came to my mind. I can see myself going to the doctor and as you know they come in reading your chart. Not really listening to you. But they say, what seems to be your problem today?

Well, Doc. I am discombobulated. He looks at me out of the corner of his eye, as he pulls his palm pilot medical dictionary out of this pocket and proceeds to look up discombobulated.

I am guessing that this word is not in his medical palm pilot. He says, ” We need to run some test, or maybe see a specialist, or you can go home take two aspirins and call me in two days, if symptoms do not go away.”

I am thinking Specialist, then I can use my novel word again.

So, he sends me to a specialist who looks at me funny when I tell him I am discombobulated. He checks me out and says, “I will send a report to your doctor in a few days. Until then go home and take two aspirins and call your local doctor is symptoms get worse.

Well, anyway by now I realized that I could have saved a lot of time and money, if I had just stayed home and taken two aspirins.

As I finished watching the movie, Tammy gives the definition for discombobulated. She says, again, ” I am just so discombobulated, just like a short dog in tall grass.”

I laugh at myself, and say thank you Lord, for letting me catch the trivial things you send my way to make me laugh.

So, whatever you are discombobulated about, I hope this put a smile on your face and laughter in your heart.

Proverbs 17:22 says, “A merry heart does good, like medicine. But a broken spirit dries the bones.”

Jeremiah 33:3 (NKJV)
3 ‘Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.’
Isaiah 40:28 (NKJV)
28 Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the Lord, The Creator of the ends of the earth, neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable.

Pride For Lunch

Pride for Lunch
Author: Pat Aman 3/14/2001

Luke 8:41-42 And behold, there came a man named Jairus, and he was an official of the synagogue; and he fell at Jesus’ feet, and began to entreat Him to come to his house; 42 for he had an only daughter, about twelve years old, and she was dying. (NAS)

Let’s try to put ourselves in Jairus’ place for just a minute here. His young daughter is gravely ill, near death. Jairus is well-known in the community as a teacher, counselor and man of faith.

The itinerant Rabbi was strictly to be avoided, off limits according to the leadership in Jerusalem. To meet him or have anything to do with him was to be required to explain yourself, in the very least. It could easily mean to be excommunicated. They were dead serious about it.

But there were also stories, supposedly true ones from good sources, that this Jesus had the power to heal. There were other very interesting tales surrounding this man. Some of which were just too wild to be true. If it were not for the fact that this edict had come down from the top, Jairus might have liked to have at least met this Rabbi and talked with him.

But now he, who was the pillar of strength to the community, was in need of strength beyond his reach. His only daughter was dying and all the prayers he could muster were not changing a thing. All the kind words, which were meant to comfort, only drove the point deeper into his heart. She was slipping away from him like sand through his fingers. God’s gift to his heart was being recalled.

Luke 8:42-44 But as He went, the multitudes were pressing against Him. 43 And a woman who had a hemorrhage for twelve years, and could not be healed by anyone, 44 came up behind Him, and touched the fringe of His cloak; and immediately her hemorrhage stopped. (NAS)

He had to choose. A moment of destiny for himself, his family and his daughter. If this man could heal his daughter and he did not try, he would never be able to forgive himself. The leadership would understand, maybe. And if they did not and he was thrown out, he would still have his beloved child. With that he swallowed his pride and decided. He closed the books on his desk, got up and fairly ran out the door.

The people who had decided to come and see this Jesus were stunned to see one of the leaders in the synagogue there too. They had heard of the letter from the temple leaders, too. Some knew of his situation at home. As Jesus entered the town the large crowd parted slightly and Jairus and Jesus were face-to-face. Jairus in his fine robes and Jesus in his garments covered with dust from the journey.

Everything he had thought to say at their meeting fled Jairus’ mind. He managed a brief hello and half choked out the words he dreaded. “My daughter is dying. Please come to my home and touch her.”

He controlled the plea in his voice as much as possible. But it was there. There was no pause in the Rabbi at all. His head tilted slightly to one side as he said, “Of course, please lead the way.” Hope flowed in, hope which had been dripping out like sand from an hourglass. He said he would come, and He didn’t say He couldn’t do it! Jairus struggled to lead the way through the crowd when suddenly he heard Jesus speak. “Who touched me?”

A delay. Not now. We have to go. I’ll bring Him back. My daughter, my child is so sick. Please! He knew the woman he spoke with as well. Her situation was well-known. An unstoppable bleeding that had lately begun to take its toll on her. The doctors said that she also was dying.

He wanted to barge in and break it up, but the compassion that this Jesus had shown him, he now also showed this poor woman. No condemnation at all, and there had been fear in her voice and her eyes when she had admitted her actions. The same fear that gripped Jairus’ heart as he met the Rabbi. The very same.

The delay was only minutes. Jairus was stunned at the man’s power to heal and by the gentle power in Jesus’ words and his gaze. The miracle he had just witnessed was almost lost on him in his own need. Then he say two men coming from his home. He could tell by the look in their eyes, they had horrible news that they would have given anything not to have to deliver. As they met, Jairus steeled himself for the news but it crushed him all the same. His only daughter was dead, beyond help now. The sliver of hope that had swelled inside him was in ashes.

Jesus reached up and put his hand on his shoulder. Jairus looked up expecting pity and saw power and love.”Don’t be afraid, only believe.”

Luke 8:52-53 Now they were all weeping and lamenting for her; but He said, “Stop weeping, for she has not died, but is asleep.” 53 And they began laughing at Him, knowing that she had died. (NAS)

The hired mourners all wore sad faces and tears flowed liberally. Their mock tears ate at Jairus’. Their presence had been arranged. Yet they knew no pain in his daughter’s death. When Jesus instructed them to stop crying they did. When Jesus told them the little girl was only sleeping they mocked Him. They railed on Him and jeered Him. They knew dead, they had seen dead and she was. How unfair of you to raise this man’s hope. How dare you insult us like that? With a single word of command He sent the mourners packing.

The authority in that voice made Jairus’ hair on the back of his neck stand to attention. Silence again reigned where there had been wailing before.

Luke 8:54-56 He, however, took her by the hand and called, saying, “Child, arise!” 55 And her spirit returned, and she rose immediately; and He gave orders for something to be given her to eat. 56 And her parents were amazed; but He instructed them to tell no one what had happened. (NAS)

Jesus took a few of his friends and Jairus into the house. Jairus’ wife looked up from beside the still form on her child to her husband. The pain in her eyes was staggering. When she saw Jairus, she did not see the broken father she expected to see. And she saw his companions and was very confused. “Dear, this is Rabbi Jesus who we have all heard so much about. He has agreed to come and heal our daughter.”

She stood up slowly, half in shock at the words. Could it be? She walked toward her husband as Jesus walked toward the mat that held the young girl. Jesus touched her arm as they passed and looked at her with promise and hope in His eyes. She continued over to her husband. Her mouth opened to speak but words would not come. She quietly turned and looked as Jesus knelt beside her child.

Jesus picked up her cool hands and held them for just a second. The term He used was a term of endearment. Jairus would be later struck by the irony that though they had never met, Jesus showed a genuine caring for this little girl. “Princess, time to get up.” There was no lightning or event of any kind.

There was a brief pause. Was that a breath she took? Fighting with his unbelief Jairus stared as his daughter’s eyelids fluttered and opened. She sat up, and then stood. Jesus smiled widely at her and gestured her to her parents.
Her mother met her halfway across the floor with a hug. Immediately she checked her daughter’s forehead and cheeks. The burning heat that had radiated was no longer there. It was as if she had never been ill. Before Jairus could gain his wits Jesus asked that they see to it that their daughter had something to eat. It was as if He had somehow known she hadn’t eaten for several days.

Jairus walked over to Jesus and grabbed both arms and shock them for joy. He hugged Jesus and kissed His cheeks and thanked him from a grateful heart. “Can I do anything for you? I could arrange for you to speak that the synagogue on the Sabbath if you would like? I could arrange for you to meet the leaders of the city? Anything, name it, please.”

The compassionate smile turned to Jairus and said, “Let’s keep this between ourselves, and you are very welcome.” It was a knowing smile too. Jesus would do nothing to further endanger Jairus’ livelihood or reputation with his leadership. He had gone way out on a limb, stretching his faith for his family. Jesus would honor that. He quickly said His goodbyes and left as the girl snacked on bread and honey with something to drink. He waved from the doorway with his companions. He was gone, leaving the family in wonder.

“How do you keep this a secret?”, Jairus wondered. A miracle happens before your eyes, restores something this precious to you and then you tell no one? It would not be a surprise to me if the family had thrown a block party in celebration.

Jairus swallowed his professional and personal pride to meet Jesus. When he did so, Jesus was able to restore His only daughter to him and her family.
How many times do we prevent Jesus from helping us by not swallowing our pride and going to Him? Sometimes it takes getting down to were there is nothing else left to hold on to before we do.

There are times when we look back and say, “if only I had. We waited too long.” Jairus abandoned himself to Jesus, as did the woman with the bleeding. Both knew desperation, and both knew redemption from there hopeless plights. They had both reached beyond what they knew to be possible, literally throwing themselves into the dark and trusting Jesus to catch them.

What does it take to get you to that point?

Father God Is Not Unpredictable

Father God Is Not Unpredictable

Hebrews 13:8, Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

Malachi 3:6, “For I the Lord do not change; therefore you, O children of Jacob, are not consumed.

James 1:7, Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.

I am not sure about you, but, everyday I seem to check the Weather App. Well, several times a day.

Maybe I think it might change from thirty minutes ago when I last check it. Other than that, I think it is just habit.

As I think about this, I finally realize I am putting to much effort in this thought.

In the summer we do have times when we may experience a quick summer rain which makes us run for shelter for a few minutes. So, in a way things can change fast.

You know even though the Weather App says, no rain and sunny sky’s, a small thunderstorm can happen. The atmosphere can change, and Wham, Boom, Kapow“and we realize we need shelter.

Last summer I was in the swimming pool. All at once in sunny sky’s, because the Weather App said so, “wham, boom and kapow “, the thunder was so loud that I knew immediately the lightening was close. My eight year old neighbor started running to me screaming, “Mrs. Pat, get out of the pool!”

I was already getting out, but Ethan was going to make sure. He knew I was in danger. He wanted to make sure I was being protected from the storm. Ethan had my back.

I want to tell you now, “weather may change, but my Father God is unchanging.”

There can be days in our lives that the unexpected happens.

Yes, the Good, Bad, and Ugly.

But, in those times when the atmosphere of our life changes we need to know with all our heart, mind, body, soul and spirit Father God has our back.

Well, when we let Him! And when you put your eyes on the things of this world, you take your atmosphere of your life out of Father God’s hands.

Everyday we must keep our eyes on Father God. He is constantly watching over us, His children.

Father God tells us in, Matthew 11: 28-30, Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.

Today, I want you to asked yourself a question, does Father God have your back?

If you cannot say yes, then right now stop looking to this world for the answers to the questions of your atmosphere. Look to the all knowing Father God, the creator of the universe. He is already in charge. And He has all the right answers. For He is never changing.

Rest and Relax

Rest and Relax

Luke 6: 12-13, “One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God. When morning came, he called his disciples to him and chose twelve of them, whom he also designated apostles.”

I have two seasons I enjoy which includes Summer and Fall.

I know if our family is sitting around in the summer, we may decide to get in the car and ride down to the Topsail Beach.

Joe and my honeymoon ended at Topsail Beach at the cottage his parents owned. We got married in Louisiana and then went to Disney World, Sea World and Silver Spring, Florida, and back to North Carolina. So that area of North Carolina has a lot of memories for us.

Our family has spent many summers enjoying Topsail Beach, Southport and Sneeds Ferry.

We may only get out of the car on these day excursions if we decide to ride the ferry from Fort Fisher to South Port, take a short walk on the beach, are to eat at our favorite restaurant at Sneeds Ferry, “The Riverview”.

Extra note: “The Riverview is the first restaurant my husband Joe of 44 years had our first date.”

Even though we are in the car riding and sightseeing, it is still relaxing.

And in the Fall we always go to the Blue Ridge and Smokey Mountains.

And I love The Mast General Store. I can walk thru it every year and feel the days of years gone by.

But, we just have a lot of fun, and rest and relax.

Hummm, relax? Why do we only take time to really relax during those certain seasons of our life? We need to take the time to relax everyday.

But with life, family, friends, jobs, and careers, resting and relaxing seems can only happen twice a year. Maybe more times in the summer on weekends.

We all would be healthier and happier if we took time to rest and relax.

And really who can call a vacation resting and relaxing? You usually have to come home to rest and relax from vacation.

Hey a thought: “And Jesus, while ministering here on earth, even took time to rest and relax.

Let’s see what Mr. Webster has to say about rest and relax.

Rest: to cease work or movement in order to relax, refresh oneself, or recover strength.
Relax: to become or to cause (something) to become less tense, tight, or stiff : to stop feeling nervous or worried.

In today’s society we get so caught up that we do not take the time to enjoy life with family and friends. And even the most important is we do not take the time to spend moments with our Father God.

What if, when we set aside the distractions of our day to see God’s beauty all around us that we hadn’t noticed before?

I actually did this today. “Not really meaning too,” (more to this statement at a future time)but I spent about three hours in the back yard looking at the trees, flowers, birds, and children in the neighborhood playing. I heard the sounds of Nature not only with my ears, but with my eyes and heart.

While I was listening, Father God even miraculously let me hear the sound from my Bayou home. Frogs croaking, crickets chirping, and the sound of water flowing.

Was this Father’s God’s way of bringing me back to Him and taking me out of the business and craziness of the last 17 months of chaos?

Whatever the reason, my Father God loved me enough to put His foot down and say, “Pat, my daughter, Stop, relax and rest. Spent this time in fellowship with me.

He let me know that the distractions of this world should not stop and overwhelmed me.

My Father God reminded me-
Pat, Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me. I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.
John 15:4-5

Yes, He reminded me to relax and rest in His loving tender arms.

“Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest (and relax) in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭91:1-4‬ ‭

Finding Your Tail

Being Thankful While Trying Too Find Your Tail
Author: Pat AH Aman

Isaiah 40:28 Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
The LORD is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
and his understanding no one can fathom.
29 He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak.
30 Even youths grow tired and weary,
and young men stumble and fall;
31 but those who hope in the LORD
will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles;they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.

Are You Eeyore?
Author: Pat Aman
November 21,2003

Can you be thankful while trying to find your tail… Lately it seems I have been busy, and I think a couple of days I lost mine.

Have you ever felt like Eeyore. You know the little gray patched up donkey in the Winnie the Pooh series.

They lived in a beautiful 100 acre woods Eeyore use to say, “Is my tail still on?” Then he would say, “let’s have a look, and he turned slowly round to the place where his tail had been a little while ago, and then, finding that he couldn’t catch it up, he turned round the other way, until he came back to where he was at first, and then he put his head down and looked between his front legs, and at last he said, with a long, sad sigh, “I believe you’re right, Pooh, it is still there.”

Sometimes I feel the same way, I feel I have lost my tail, and cannot find it. I think that we sometimes go to that 100 acre woods, a beautiful place, but it becomes our gloomy place just like Eeyore.

When you are in that gloomy place it is hard to give praise and thanks when we feel like Eeyore that we have lost our tail.

Even though Eeyore had great compassion for others, and was always trying to help people, he still at times felt, Oh, poor me. See, he lost his love for life. He some how lost the sense of a positive attitude. His fire had gone out.
In our lives we all at times may think, I am burned out, woe is me. We still truck along trying to do our best, but we have to continually put patches on our lives just to hold us together.

See, God speaks of this very thing in Revelation chapter two. He tells the church at Ephesus, that He knows all their good deeds, but He is getting a little disappointed in them, because they have lost their first love. “Him.”

Again, I myself sometimes feel tired, even though I keep getting up from being knock down, that my first love is getting depleted from my life. I need to get that fire back, the fire that helps build my faith up. Yes, that is when I need to get down on my knees and look up to God and find my tail.

God promises to give strength to the weary, and I tell you now, I have to stand on that promise.

So, if today, you are feeling like Eeyore, and you have lost your tail, and are sitting in your gloomy place look up to the Heavenly Father.

Yes, get back on your knees, and look up to God and say, “I think you are right God, I still have it together.”

And then begin singing, praising and thanking God and see your life turn around, as we become thankful instead of woe is me.

In others words, you may have to be like Eeyore, turn around, check things out, and see if you may have to let some things go that maybe clouding up your way.

The way God wants you to go. You may as Eeyore, have to get in a downward position on your knees, so God can show you that your tail is still on and your headed in just the way He wants you to go.

You just need to turn around and follow God with Thankfulness and Praise.

Guidance

When I meditated on the word GUIDANCE, I kept seeing”dance” at the end of the word. I remember reading that doing God’s will is a lot like dancing. I do not even know how to dance so this was enlighting to me. But I do remember that when Joe and I owned our own business, we use to go to alot of conventions.

There was a older couple, in their 70’s who went to the conventions every year also. They did Ball Room dancing. I remember loving to watch them dance. It was like a glove on a hand. It fit perfectly. They flowed like two doves soaring in the sky. Each one seem to know what the other wanted. The woman seem to float as her partner lead the way. It was beautilful.

This makes me think again about the word

“Gui-dance.”

When two people try to lead, nothing feels right. The movement doesn’t flow with the music, and everything is quite uncomfortable and jerky.

When one person realizes and lets the other lead, both bodies begin to flow with the music. One gives gentle cues, perhaps with a nudge to the back or by pressing lightly in one direction or another. It’s as if two become one body, moving beautifully. The dance takes surrender, willingness, and attentiveness from one person and gentle guidance and skill from the other.

My eyes drew back to the word GUIDANCE. When I saw “G,” I thought of God, followed by “u” and “i.” “God, ‘u” and “i” dance.” ! ! God, you, and I dance.

This statement is what guidance means to me.

As I lowered my head, I became willing to trust that I would get guidance about my life. Once again, I became willing to let God lead.

My prayer for you today is that God’s blessings and mercies be upon you and your family on this day and everyday. May you abide in Him as He abides in you.

John 15:7 says, “If you abide in me and my words abide in you, you may ask what you will and it will be.”

Dance together with God, trusting Him to lead and to guide you through each season of your life.

God, I ask you to bless my friends, relatives and reading this right now. Show them a new revelation of your love and power of the Holy! Spirit. ! I ask You to minister to their spirit at this very moment. Where there is self-doubt, release a renewed confidence through Your grace.

My prayer is they learn to dance with you.

I Hope You Dance!!

Love and Prayers
