Church In Smyrna

““To the angel of the church in Smyrna write: These are the words of him who is the First and the Last, who died and came to life again. I know your afflictions and your poverty—yet you are rich! I know about the slander of those who say they are Jews and are not, but are a synagogue of Satan. Do not be afraid of what you are about to suffer. I tell you, the devil will put some of you in prison to test you, and you will suffer persecution for ten days. Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you life as your victor’s crown. Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches. The one who is victorious will not be hurt at all by the second death.”

The Christians in Smyrna were not wealthy. They were not of high society. They couldn’t afford a big, beautiful buildings that would attract attention in Smyrna and give them a respectable place in their community. They had absolutely nothing but their faithful lives to enticed people to join. They couldn’t afford to take off work to get things done at the church. They couldn’t afford education. They had pressing bills at home. Poverty presents its own bundle of dilemmas that includes feelings of insignificance, inferiority, and depression. Life wasn’t easy for the Christians in Smyrna. And yet… they had found true LIFE! They had found a peace that surpasses understanding! They had a deeper purpose for living than just getting by, serving their earthly masters, and living out their days. They had found the ultimate reason for living! A sure hope for their future! This earthly life had no meaning for them they were headed for a better place! They had far greater riches than the wealthiest of the wealthy! They had a far greater standing with the One who directs the highest society! They were rich even beyond what they could fathom

Jesus calls them to remain faithful in their suffering: “Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you the crown of life”. Here, a specific crown is mentioned for those who die as a result of suffering for Christ. Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.”

Jesus makes a final promise to the believers in Smyrna: “He who overcomes will not be hurt at all by the second death” Revelation2:11

The overcomers, or “conquerors,” refer to all believers 1 John 5:4-5.

The second death is a reference to the final judgment of the wicked

Believers will not be hurt “at all” by that judgment; their sin was judged at the cross, and, in Christ, there is no more condemnation. Romans 8:1

So, again we see the promises of living a Godly life. Not giving into carnally, and every lasting judgement. But the blessings of our Father God…

Church In Ephesus

““To the angel of the church in Ephesus write: These are the words of him who holds the seven stars in his right hand and walks among the seven golden lampstands. I know your deeds, your hard work and your perseverance. I know that you cannot tolerate wicked people, that you have tested those who claim to be apostles but are not, and have found them false. You have persevered and have endured hardships for my name, and have not grown weary. Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first. Consider how far you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first. If you do not repent, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place. But you have this in your favor: You hate the practices of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate. Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who is victorious, I will give the right to eat from the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God.”

When we are first saved, we are on fire…And this is quite natural to have an excitement and zeal for learning and living by God’s instructions.

But as time goes by, just like the smell of a new car, our excitement starts to decline. Our excitement for God can fade or dissipate. Maybe because we are in a church congregation that does not teach us about life, or building one another up in prayer. Even the Pastor and other members are in a sluggish routine and has fallen into the same trap. Maybe we get slack in prayer time and Bible study. Maybe we let life’s ups and downs take us away from assembling together with other Christians.

What apparently happened to these members at Ephesus was that over time, they began drifting away from God. Christ told them that they needed to “repent and do the first works” if they wanted to remain a part of the Church of God (Revelation 2:5).

We must remember that God will remove any and all candlesticks in our lives that we put before Him. Anything that becomes an altar of self indulgence, and removes God from our lives.

Just as God told the Church In Ephesus to get back to Him, and the ministry set before them, we must do the same.
Return to God our first love.

Letter to the Church of Sardis

Rev 3:1 “To the angel of the church in Sardis write:

1 These are the words of him who holds the seven spirits of God and the seven stars. I know your deeds; you have a reputation of being alive, but you are dead.

2 Wake up! Strengthen what remains and is about to die, for I have not found your deeds complete in the sight of my God.

3 Remember, therefore, what you have received and heard; obey it, and repent. But if you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what time I will come to you.

4 Yet you have a few people in Sardis who have not soiled their clothes. They will walk with me, dressed in white, for they are worthy.

5 He who overcomes will, like them, be dressed in white. I will never blot out his name from the book of life, but will acknowledge his name before my Father and his angels.

6 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.

What is our Lord saying to the church at Sardis, and through them, to us?

The diagnosis was spiritual death. But resuscitation was possible.

Is your Christian walk lively? Or have you become stuck in a rut? Are you
going through the motions, or are you excited about going to church, reading God’s word, conversing with your Heavenly Father?

Once upon a time, most of us were excited about our faith. But eventually,
it usually becomes “old” to us. How can we revive it? Try something fresh.

If you usually prefer traditional worship, give one contemporary service a try. You may not want to attend all the time, but it could quick start your faith excitement. It speaks to people in the vernacular – just as Jesus did. Try a new version of the Bible. Oh boy, I hit a rock there.

Remember, even the King James was translated by men, from the original
transcripts, so do not let yourself fall into not reading the newer translations.

Read a new (to you) Christian author, or revisit an old one that inspired you.

Get involved in service. That’s God’s intent for us, and we aren’t complete spiritually, if we are not using the gifts He has abundantly blessed us with.

And pray, pray, pray. God wants you to have a lively faith walk. But be careful what you ask for; you will get it! He may drop you out of your comfort zone.

Study Notes: The New King James Bible

Are You Being Deceived?

Matthew 24 says, “For there shall arise false Christ’s, and false prophets, and they shall show great signs and wonders. Insomuch that If it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.”

This verse shows it is the reason that each of us should stay in the Word.

Before I make my point in this devotional let me say, I know we are having to live stream our church services during this time of crisis and that is wonderful.

With the technology we have today God’s Word is being preached around the world, and many souls have come to the saving knowledge of Jesus.

But, I hear people constantly saying that they are watching difference ministers on every iPad, computer, iPhone, Comcast hour after hour.

Every time I turn around they are sharing with me something that they have heard from ministers somewhere.

They can even quote the message word for word. They are taking every word that is being preached and not even making sure that what they heard is exactly what the Bible says…

But when I ask them to quote a bible verse they have memorized, they cannot do it. When I ask them to tell me a time that they knew God spoke to them, they cannot.

These are the people who are going to get deceived. These are the people who have already been deceived. These are church members, Christian people.

What a sad thing because when they are alone in their homes needing an answer for direction, and needing to hear the voice of God, I promise you a on line minister will not be there for you, but God and His Holy Word, the Bible will be…

We need to turn the off the electronic devices and get the Bible down from the shelf, open it and see what God has to say to us.

The Word of God is what Jesus used to defeat Satan in the wilderness and the Word of God is what will help defeat Satan in our lives.

The Word of God is what will teach us, so that we will not be deceived by false prophets.

Today make a choice to change your life and your circumstances.

Open the Book – God’s Road map…Your sword…

Just as Apostle Paul taught Timothy, Bible study and prayer time is important in helping to keep us strong.

Study to show yourself approved unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 2 Timothy 2:15

We must remember 2 Timothy 2:15 is not just a command to study the Bible, being an approved workman involves much more. Paul wanted Timothy to understand that to be a workman that God could approve, he would have to be diligent in his service to God. God is not the kind of Master that accepts shoddy work! By earnestly applying himself in service, Timothy would not need to be ashamed as he stood before God in the day of judgment.

Study to show yourself approved unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 2 Timothy 2:15

Remember, Satan himself knows the Bible and quotes it to deceive you. Please study so you will know when you are being deceived

Faith to Risk, Trust, and Surrender

I want us to look at Abraham.

I could go on a different direction with Abraham, but I think today I will talk about three areas he was tested.

Abraham’s ability was tested in three areas of faith; faith to risk, faith to trust, and faith to surrender.

Genesis 12:1-3 Now the Lord had said to Abram: “Get out of your
country, from your family, and from your father’s house. To a land that I
will show you. I will make you a great nation. I will bless you, and make your name great; I will bless those who bless you, and curse him who curses you; and in you all the families of earth shall be blessed.”

1. Faith to risk. Abraham already had land and prosperity. He was
   settled. But God had greater things for him to do. Abraham had to take a
   step of faith. He had to risk losing or giving up all he had so God could
   bless him more. He had to have the faith to risk, so he could gain.
2. Faith to trust. That meant he had to totally put all his trust in
   the word of God. He could not look back, or at the present. He could not
   worry over what had been or will be. He had to put his future in the
   hands of God.
3. Faith to surrender. This meant he had to surrender his will, wants,
   likes, his total life and being to the plan God had for him. He had to
   say. “God I surrender all to you. I give you my everything. Now take me and mold me and my family to what you want us to be. Whatever it takes.

Whatever it takes. Hard words to say.He surrender his all, and put his trust in God and risk losing everything to gain.

Abraham is the father of faith, and the faithful. Thought his life,
faith is exemplified. From this “friend of God”. James 2:23 says, “And
the scripture was fulfilled which says,”Abraham believed God and it was accounted to him for righteousness, and he was called the friend of God.”

We learn that faith is not perfect character or integrity. Rather, it
is simply taking God at His word. By doing do, Abraham became the model of faith for the believer. His life demonstrates how we benefit from believing what God says despite evidence to the contrary.

Remember, do not fear when God’s direction takes a turn you do not
understand. He knows what He is doing.

Believe God’s promises to you. He knows how to bring them to pass although you may not.

Avoid striving to fulfill God’s promises by yourself. Doing so always backfires and produces undesired results.

Trust that God will provide as He promises. His nature is to provide.

And last but not lest. God’s provision are strategically located
along the pathway of faithful obedience.

After being out of the state for about 15 days, I have had a time getting over the exhaustion of travel and bronchitis. It has taken me just as long to recuperate as it did the traveling time.

I realized it is time to go before my Father God in prayer and resting. It is time to be anointed in a new oil. A refreshing of the Holy Spirit.

I Am Emptying My Alabaster Box

Have you ever just felt like throwing your hands up and screaming? If you say NO, I will pray for you because we all have felt this way at sometimes in our life. There are times like these when we need to have a Mary Heart. We need to go and pour ourselves out at the feet of Jesus.

As I think of Mary anointing Jesus feet. She once was a broken person, but, Jesus touched her. Because Jesus had touched her and gave her a new life, the Holy Spirit spoke her to anoint Jesus, preparing Him for the steps He would soon take to walk the Road to Calvary.

I love the story of Jesus, Mary and the Alabaster Box.

I often tell people, “do not judge others by what you see, because you do not know what is in their Alabaster Box!” Quote: Pat Aman

She broke a box of ointment and poured it on Jesus. This ointment was valued at 300 pence. Pence was the daily wage of the average worker. Therefore, in modern terms, it was worth about $15,000.00.

This spikenard was produced from a rare plant that grew in India. It was very expensive, and many people saved for years to be able to provide this for their own funeral preparations. However, this woman, poured it out on the Lord Jesus.

A lot of preachers teach about how expenses the oil/perfume cost. Others teach that it meant Mary was giving her best, her all. But, I think of it this way. ‘What was really in Mary’s Alabaster Box?

I like to imagine that as she broke the vessel so that she might extract every drop of ointment for use on the Lord Jesus, she was also showing Jesus every broken part of herself.

The vessel was her broken life, filled with the oil of all the hurts, sorrow, jealousy, hatred, disappointments and even happiness that she had experienced. Yes, she had paid a great price in her life, the way she had lived, but, Jesus only saw the broken vessel as clay that He could mold into a beautiful vase. And he did not judge or smell the unpleasant odor of her sins, but the sweet-smelling aroma of her love and her willingness to sacrifice everything to follow her Lord and Savior.

Whatever you may think about when reading this story, Mary gave all she had to Jesus for His glory! She totally opened herself up to Him. She did not try to hide one part of herself.

I wonder have we broken the Alabaster Box of our lives and poured out ourselves, every drop for Him? All the brokenness of our sinful lives.

God is seeking people who have surrendered everything they have, everything they are and everything they hope to be. He is looking for people who will assume the place of servants before Him. He is looking for those who will merely respond when He speaks to them. He is looking for those about whom He can say, “They have done what they could.”

I think of Apostle Paul also when I read this story. In 2 Timothy 4, he says,“6 For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure is at hand. 7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8 Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.”

I feel that after Mary anointed Jesus, she also, felt the very same way that Paul did.

Are you now ready to break the Alabaster Box of your life? Please right now, open your Alabaster Box to Jesus. He is waiting to pour His glory out on you, as you give glory and honor to Him.

We must all be Mary’s in our worship. We must totally empty our Alabaster Box at the feet of Jesus. Mary did not care what Martha thought. She did not care about what all the men in the room thought. She let her hair down in public, which was totally something a women did not do, and gave her entire worship to her Savior. She poured her heart and soul out. She totally emptied herself.
Sounds like that is what you do also….It is what we all need to do….Not worry what is going on around us, what others may think. It is just about God getting His glory.

Joy In Us

When we abide in Christ, our prayers are effective, we glorify God in our fruit bearing we demonstrate our discipleship, and our joy become full through experiencing Christ’s own joy with us.

Also when we obey the Lord and align our will with His will we receive
understanding of His Word, and many other areas of our lives.

Now, I know, some of you are saying, “Oh, that name it and claim if stuff.” Well, in away yes. See, if you spend time with God daily, and read His Word, then your will, shall become His will for your life.

In other words plainly written, the more you know of God, the more you will know of yourself. For we are made in His image and His ways.

As you commit more to God and His Word, then you will soon find out that you are only asking Him in Prayer what you know that He has promised you that He would do for you, by and from your obedience to Him.

Learn to do it God’s way. Moses was told the first time to strike the stone with the rod and water would flow. He did what was asked of him, and God gave them water.

The second time around, Moses did not listen too good. God told Moses to speak to the rock and water shall come out, but instead he decided to strike the stone twice with the rod to get water instead of following God’s direction. Well, we know what happen then, the people disobedience caused them not to be able to enter the Promise Land.

(You cannot always do something the same way all the time. Sometimes you have to take a chance. Dare to try a new idea. Pat Aman)

We must learn to listen to God and do what He requires for us to do.

If Moses had just spoke to the rock as God said, everything would have been okay, but instead he wore himself out by hitting the rock twice and doing it his way. Speaking would have taken less time and energy than picking up the rod, and hitting the rock. That took a little muscle on Moses own part. It would have been much easier if he had just obeyed God in the beginning.

His disobedience lost him the goal, plans, and ministry God had for him to do in the Promise Land.

Now the question, are you ready to listen to God and enter the Promise
Land, or do your own thing the hard way?

If you decide to do it your own way you may succeed just as Moses did after hitting the rock twice and doing it his own way, but he lost his Promised Vision, and he become tired and weary.

How about asking God what He wants for your life. I promise you that it will be better than any plans that you have come up with on your own.

Get in God’s Word, Prayer, and study to show yourself a workman, then you can asked what you will, and it shall be.

Why Worry About The Unknown Things

Proverbs 3: 16 “For the Lord shall be thy confidence.”

H. E. Manning wrote, “He has kept and folded us from ten thousand ills when we did not know it; in the midst of our security we should have perished every hour, but that He sheltered us, ‘from the terror by night and from the arrow that flieth by day…’ from the powers of evil that walk in darkness, from the snares of our own evil will. He has kept us even against ourselves, and saved us even from our own undoing. Let us read the traces of His hand in all our ways, in all events, the chances, the changes of this troubles state. It is He that folds and feeds us, that makes us to go in and out…, to be faint, or to find pasture…’ to lie down by the still waters, or to walk by the way that is parched and desert.”

As I read the quote above, I thought, my gracious, God is continually taking care of us. There are so many times that we are worrying about things that really do not, or should not matter, because if we are God’s children, He is always watching over us and taking care of us.

Just think about it, God is protecting us from so many unseen things that we do not even know about. He takes care of the problem for us, when we did not even know or realized that there was a problem or need in our life at that moment.

I thank God that He does take care of the unseen or unknown things in my life. The things that are not bought to my attention.

So, if He can take care of the unknown things, then I am assured that He will take care of the requests and needs of my life that I know about and I lift them up in prayer to Him.

Psalm 91
1 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”
3 Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence.
4 He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
5 You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day,
6 nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday.
7 A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you.
8 You will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked.
9 If you make the Most High your dwelling- even the LORD, who is my refuge-
10 then no harm will befall you,
no disaster will come near your tent.

The Unknown Things

Scriptures About Our Words

When we speak words, they are said…..And you can “take them back.” we absolutely cannot retrieve words spoken out loud.

Words can kill the spirit or heal the spirit. They can edify or they can
demolish. Here is a bit of what God’s word has to say about our words.

The Power of the Tongue

James 3:4-10 (NRSV) Or look at ships: though they are so large that it takes strong winds to drive them, yet they are guided by a very small rudder wherever the will of the pilot directs. So also the tongue is a small member, yet it boasts of great exploits. How great a forest is set ablaze by a small fire! And the tongue is a fire. The tongue is placed
among our members as a world of iniquity; it stains the whole body, sets
on fire the cycle of nature, and is itself set on fire by hell. For every species of beast and bird, of reptile and sea creature, can be tamed and has been tamed by the human species, but no one can tame the tongue–a restless evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless the Lord and Father, and with it we curse those who are made in the likeness of God. From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this ought not to be so.

Contrast Between Edifying Words & Destructive Words

Prov 15:2 (NRSV) The tongue of the wise dispenses knowledge, but the
mouths of fools pour out folly.

Prov 15:4 (NRSV) A gentle tongue is a tree of life, but perverseness in it
breaks the spirit.

Eph 4:29 (NRSV) Let no evil talk come out of your mouths, but only what is
useful for building up, as there is need, so that your words may give
grace to those who hear.

the wise brings healing.

Warning Against Futile Words

Eccl 5:3 (NRSV) For dreams come with many cares, and a fool’s voice with
many words.

Mat 6:7 (NRSV) When you are praying, do not heap up empty phrases as the
Gentiles do; for they think that they will be heard because of their many
words.

God Told Me…I Am Ready To Pour Myself Out To The Church

I feel that in these last days there will be a new wine poured out on God’s children. As each of us awaits with great expectations of things to come. Almost like a realigning for the church.

“For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭8:19‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“The entire universe is standing on tiptoe, yearning to see the unveiling of God’s glorious sons and daughters!”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭8:19‬ ‭TPT‬‬

“For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed.”Romans 8:19 NIV

Just as Jesus Ministry began with Him turning the water into wine at Cana, it was almost like a prophecy of a changing times.

“He told them this parable: “No one tears a piece out of a new garment to patch an old one. Otherwise, they will have torn the new garment, and the patch from the new will not match the old. And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the new wine will burst the skins; the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined.And no one after drinking old wine wants the new, for they say, ‘The old is better.’ ””Luke‬ ‭5:36-37, 39‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Even now as I mentioned above, I feel the pouring out of new wine. A wine of healing and redemption. The last day harvest is going to come in upon us like a broken dam. Because of this new wine, we must have new wine containers to catch the overflow of the Holy Spirits outpouring. The old containers will not be able to hold the new wine. And we will not be able to put patches on old traditions. Things must be made new.

Decisions will need to be made in our churches to either stay stagnant to old religious traditions are to welcome and receive the new wine. Our churches cannot stay stagnant, but must be ready to move into a new season.

And again, old containers (wine sacks) will not be able to manage, sustain, in the new season of wine.

Will this new season of wine be easy?

No!

For most of churches will go through a tough journey of change. The church may even go through man’s traditions of holding on to the old comfortable ways, and then loosing and missing of God’s blessing of harvest in the church.

Friends listen, God will not let the church settle in this last day harvest. If the establish church do not except the pouring out of new wine, then God will let His Spirit move in places that you would never expect it to move.

Again, the church can receive the new wine with new wine sacks ready for an infilling are their old wine sacks will burst open and fall into shredded pieces of trash.

I feel lost visions are going to be restored. There will also be a flowing of redemption and healing ministry.

Satan has worked hard the last few years to destroy the church. He has worked overtime to weary the workers. He has torn down the church through sin.

Because of sin in the church, I also know God will do a cleaning out, a sweeping of the church. I feel it is already started. It will either bring the church together for the glory of God, are churches will have to close their doors.

It is time to rebuild the temple of God. It is time for a sanctification of the church. It is time for a breakthrough anointing new wine which is the Holy Spirit of God working and restoration. It is a purification of the hearts of God’s children.

Church let’s not give up now. It is a time of new beginnings. It is a time of discernment and a willingness to obey the voice of God.

If we want to be a part of this manifestation and glory upon the church, we need to have a spirit of obedience to the Holy Spirit.

We must be willing to step out on a new journey, a journey of pouring of new wine.

Are your wine sacks ready?

I myself have asked Father God to make me new. To give me a new body, a new wine sack. I do not want a patch job on my life. I want to be made new. I want the new wine to pour out of me and overflow to this dying, lost and hurting world.
