Some Friends Job Had, Huh?

Bildad the Shuhited, Lophar the Naamathite and Eliphaz the Temanite.

“Sounds like Termites to me, trying to eat away with Jobs soul.” These friends were so overwhelmed by Job’s condition that they sit in silence with Job for seven days.

NOW let me tell you this, if I am sick or in trouble and you visit me, you better be prepare to PRAY. Do some spiritual warfare for me. I might now be as nice as Job and let you sit and look at me for seven days.

Now these men did try to figure out why he was suffering.

“Now let me add something here, it like looks and sounds like they were gossiping, running their mouths. If they had been praying God could have shown them the devil was trying to destroy Job.”

Now Eliphaz said Job suffers because of sin, and those who sin are punished. Zophar condemns Job for verbosity, presumption and sinfulness, saying Job is getting just what he deserves. Bildad, resting his authority on tradition, suggests that Job is a hypocrite.

Now if that is not calling the kettle black.

They falsely make the assumption that people can comprehend the ways of God without taking into account the fact that divine retribution and blessing may extend beyond this present life.

Job tries to tell these so call friends that he is innocence, stating that experience proves that both the godly and ungodly suffer and both enjoy prosperity.

Let’s look at what Job says, Job 27:1-6, “Moreover Job continued his discourse and said: As God lives, who has taken away my justice, and the Almighty, who has made my soul bitter. As long as my breath is in me, and the breath of God in my nostrils, my lips will not speak wickedness. Nor my tongue utter deceit. Far be it from me, that I should say you are right. Till I die, I will not put away my integrity from me. My righteousness I hold fast, and will not let it go. My heart shall not reproach me as long as I live.”

I will say that first of all Job did as we do, he tried to explain his state. I have learn that you might as well forget that. When people sit their minds to your faults they will not listen. We just need to say as Job said, “I will not put away my integrity because of what you are saying. I will just know that my God is in control.

Then there was a young man named Elihu who says the most wonderful thing. “God will speak if we will listen.”

The attitude of the sufferer, a attitude of humility allows God to intervene.

But when all is said and done, then God speaks to Job in a whirlwind. He does not try to explain Jobs suffering. He just seeks to humble Job.

Then God speaks to Jobs three friends and says, “Job 42:8, “Now therefore, take for yourselves seven bulls and seven rams, go to MY servant Job, and offer up for yourselves a burnt offering, and MY servant Job shall pray for you. for I will accept him, lest I deal with you according to your folly; because you have not spoken of Me what is right, as MY servant Job has.”

In other words God was telling Job’s three friends, “if Job ask me to spare your lives, I will. But, because you did not do what is right in my sight by My servant Job, at his word you will die or live.”

Then if we read on we see that after Job prayed for his friends, and ask God’s blessing on them, then the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before.

I know by experience that it is hard to pray for those who hurt you. I also know by experience that you will feel a lot better when you do. See God is in control, and He will never let you down.
Let God deal with others and you just pray for them and as Job said. “Keep your integrity and hold fast to your righteousness.”

I know this devotion a preaching devotion, but I decided to preach myself a sermon. I even had to throw out myself a few Amens to God.

When And How Did The Twelve Apostles Die?
Information is from the Study of True Ministry.

As I studied, I thought, my hardships are but a small pebble.

Summary: The Bible only mentions the deaths of two apostles, James who was put to death by Herod Agrippa I and Judas Iscariot who committed suicide shortly after the death of Christ. The details of the deaths of three of the apostles (John, the Beloved, Bartholomew and Simon the Canaanite) are not very well known at all, either by tradition or early historians. The deaths of the other 10 apostles are known by tradition or the writings of early Christian historians. According to traditions and the Bible, eight of the Apostles died as Martyrs. At least two of the Apostles, Peter and Andrew were crucified.

Simon surnamed Peter: (crucified upside down)— died 33-34 years after the death of Christ. According to Smith’s Bible Dictionary there is “satisfactory evidence that he and Paul were the founders of the church at Rome, and died in that city. Recognized as the head of the original Christian community in Jerusalem (Israel), he left the city when King (Herod Agrippa I) started to persecute all Christians in Jerusalem and ordered the beheading of the Apostle James (the Great). After escaping from Jerusalem, Peter preached in Judea (originally Palestine) and in Antioch (Syria) where he is historically considered as the first patriarch (bishop) of the Orthodox Church. After staying in Antioch for some time, Peter went to Rome and converted thousands into Christianity. The emperor at the time, Nero, did not like the idea of Romans becoming Christians and used the new members of the group for his amusement (e.g. feeding them to lions or wild dogs, and then burning them at stake in Rome’s coliseum—yes, the tourist spot– if they do not renounce their faith). Peter was one of the most prominent victims of this persecution. He was captured and crucified upside-down at his own request, because he said he was not worthy to be crucified the same way as our Lord. His body lies below the altar of St. Peter’s Basilica at the Vatican City, in Rome.

James (the Great): (beheaded)—the son of Zebedee, the brother of the Apostle John. He was captured and condemned to die by Herod the Agrippa 1 to please Jewish leaders who were furious at the rapid growth of the Church. James was put to death by Herod Agrippa I shortly before the day of the Passover, in the year 44 or about 11 years after the death of Christ. From Acts 12: 1-2.

John: (thrown into boiling oil, but survived)—For most of his labours, John was with Peter in Jerusalem up until the persecution of Herod Agrippa I. During this period, scholars agree that Johh escaped and preached for sometime in Asia Minor (an area around Turkey). Years later, scholars have traced that he went to Rome where it was believed he was persecuted with other Christians and was thrown into a cauldron of boiling oil—he miraculously survived. The Roman emperor at the time, Dominitian, decided after the incident to banish John to the island of Patmos (in Greece). When Dominitian died, John went back to Ephesus (in Turkey) where he spent the rest of his days. He died a very old man, the only Apostle to do so.

Andrew: (crucified upside down on an X-shaped cross)—Preached in Georgia (Russia), Istanbul (Turkey), Macedonia and finally Greece. There in Patros, Greece, the Governor Aegiatis was angered by the apostle’s preaching and the conversion of his own family to Christianity. He ordered Andrew to renounce his faith in front of a tribunal. When Andrew resisted, the governor ordered that Andrew be crucified. He was tied upside down to an X-shaped cross with thick, tight ropes but Andrew kept preaching to spectators. He was able to convince many to accept Christianity just before he died after suffering for three days. Parts of his remains are in Constantinople (Turkey), Scotland (England), but his skull is kept in Patras to this day.

Phillip (crucified)—Preached in Greece, Syria and in Turkey (in the cities of Galatia, Phrygia and Hierapolis). Philip partnered with Bartholomew in his missions. According to sources “Through his miraculous healing and preaching, Philip converted the wife of the Preconsul of the city” of Hierapolis. This event angered the Preconsul and ordered that both Philip and Bartholomew be tortured and crucified upside down. While on the cross, Philip continued to preach and he was able to convince the crowd and the Preconsul to release Bartholomew, while insisting that he (Philip) remained crucified. Bartholomew was released but Philip died on the cross and was later buried somewhere within the city.

Bartholomew: (skinned alive and beheaded)—Preached the Gospel in Mesopotamia (Iraq), Persia (Iran), Turkey, Armenia and India. He was skinned alive and beheaded at Derbent (Azerbaijan, near Russia) on the Caspian Sea by order of a local king after a majority of the people of Derbent converted to Christianity. Some of Bartholomew’s skin and bones are still kept in The Basilica of St. Bartholomew in Rome, a part of his skull is in Frankfurt, Germany and an arm is venerated at the Canterbury Cathedral in England.

Matthew: (burned-to-death?)—He must have lived many years as an apostle, since he was the author of the Gospel of Matthew which was written at least twenty years after the death of Christ. Christian tradition says he preached in Ethiopia (in Africa), Judea (Israel today), Macedonia, Syria and Parthia (northeast Iran). Bible scholars have different versions on how he died. Some say he was either killed with a sword in Parthia or he died a natural death in Ethiopia.

Thomas: (impaled by a spear)—Called by most Christians as the “Doubting Thomas” for disbelieving the Lord’s Resurrection. But after his doubts were erased by touching Jesus’ wounds, he became a fearless preacher of the Gospel and builder of churches. He was one of the first Apostles who preached outside the boundaries of the vast Roman Empire (out of Europe). He preached in Babylon (present day Iraq) and established its first Christian church. Then he went to Persia (Iran) and travelled as far as China and India. He was martyred in Mylapore, India when a local king named Masdai condemned Thomas to death. The Apostle angered the Brahmins (high ranked priests/scholars who served as the king’s advisers) who thought Christianity disrespected India’s Caste System. Thomas was brought to a nearby mountain and was stabbed-to-death with a spear. He is believed to be buried around the suburb of Madras, in India.The earlier traditions, as believed in the fourth century, say he preached in Parthia or Persia, and was finally buried at Edessa.

James Alpheus (the Lesser): (stoned and clubbed-to-death)—We know he lived at least five years after the death of Christ because of mentions in the Bible. Believed to have preached in Damascus (Syria) and acknowledged as the first bishop of the Christians in Jerusalem (Israel). Historians say he was sentenced to be stoned-to-death by the Jews for challenging Jewish Laws and for convincing some of members of the Jewish community to convert to Christianity. James died when during the stoning, one person from the crowd approached him and bashed his head with a fullers club (a piece of wood used for bashing-washing clothes). He was buried on the spot where he died, somewhere in Jerusalem.

Simon (the Canaanite): (sawed or axed-to-death?)—Before becoming an apostle, Simon was a member of the “Zealots”, a political movement rebelling against the Roman occupation of Jerusalem. Identified by some as the second Bishop of Jerusalem after James the Lesser (who was beheaded). He’s also believed to have preached in the Middle East, North Africa, Egypt, Mauritania and even Britain. His martyrdom is being debated by scholars and historians who claim Simon might have been crucified by the Romans in Lincolnshire, Britain, crucified in Samaria (Israel) after a failed revolt or sawed-to-death in Suanir, Persia with Jude Thaddeus.

Jude (Thaddeus): (sawed or axed to death?)—He was a partner of Simon the Zealot and together they preached and converted non-believers in Judea (Israel), Persia (Iran), Samaria (Israel), Idumaea (near Jordan), Syria, Mesopotamia (Iran) and Libya. It is also widely believed that Jude travelled and preached in Beirut, Lebanon. He also helped Bartholomew in bringing Christianity to Armenia. The cause of his death in unclear because of the existence of two versions: (1) He was crucified in Edessa, Turkey; (2) He was clubbed-to-death and his body was either sawed or axed in pieces after (together with Simon the Zealot). Some sources say he was buried either in Northern Persia or the most accepted version that his remains are buried in a crypt at St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome.

Judas Iscariot: (suicide, death by hanging)—Best known as the apostle who betrayed the Lord by divulging His location, leading to His arrest and persecution. He received 30 pieces of silver from Jewish priests for the information he gave. Shortly after the death of Christ Judas killed himself. According to the Bible he hanged himself, (Matthew 27:5) at Aceldama, on the southern slope of the valley of Hinnom, near Jerusalem, and in the act he fell down a precipice and was dashed into pieces.

Note: There were the twelve apostles chosen by Jesus. Eleven are named in Acts 1:13, “Peter and John, and James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot, and Judas the son of James. “ Judas Iscariot, one of the original twelve, the one who betrayed Jesus, is not named in that list. That’s the original twelve. Then add Matthias who replaced Judas Iscariot to become one of the twelve apostles of the Lamb (Acts 1:26). “And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb” (Revelation 21:14). When we include both Judas and Matthias the total is now thirteen.

We are also told that Paul was one of Jesus’ apostle (Eph 1:1) “Paul, an apostle(of Jesus Christ by the will of God…” (Ref: Acts 9:3-6, 15-16)

We know additional apostles besides these men exist because Christ, after His ascension, appointed “some as apostles, some as prophets, some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers . . . until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ” (Ephesians 4:11-13).

Life or Death

We wonder why we live in sickness?

Why life seems to be so negative?

Why people stop coming around us?

Why we seem lonely?

I could go on and on, but I want to say the answer could be our own actions and our mouth.

As Christians we should act as Christians. We should believe the Bible the Word of God. We should believe that what God says, He will do.

But, we are sometimes so negative. We speak negative. We act negative. And we do not stand on God’s promises.

I know that people have gone to the altar for prayer for healing and God healed them, and then they turn around and open their mouth and stop their healing.

Just little things, like, well I prayed but my back still hurts.

How about getting up in the morning and saying out loud, I am healed. My back does not hurt. My head does not hurt. My stomach does not hurt. My finances are wonderful. My car works great. My family is all saved.

Church you are not naming and claiming. You are just believing that God will do what He says He will do.

The disciples asked Jesus, how show we pray? And Jesus answered them with the perfect prayer, the prayer of His heart. The prayer that God is showing us how He wants us to live.

Matthew 6:9-13 Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread.And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Did you notice verse 10?

He wants us to have things on earth as they are in Heaven. But, we have turned our world and our lives upside down.

I found out in my own life that if I keep my mouth shut, I am better off. If I cannot speak positive to my circumstances, I just need not to speak at all.

God hears our prayers. God wants us healed. God wants us happy, but we let satan throw all kind of things at on us. We even are so fast to open our mouths and to give satan a ideas for him to use against us.

God is the only one who knows our thoughts heart and desires. But, satan cannot read ours minds or hear our thoughts. He only hears what we speak.

So, if we are constantly speaking negative, well guess what? Yes, negative things come into our lives.

Stop blaming God if your life is going down hill.

Oh, I can hear you already, but Pastor Pat, nothing happens to us that God does not allow.

Well, I will ask you this. If you are sick, did God are you not take care of your body?

If you are broke and have no money, did God or you spend money on unnecessary things, and not save and put money back in a special fund, so you will have it in hard times.

If your family is not saved, what example did you show them with your own life and actions?

And we must remember they as well as us are free agents. We have choices and God will not go against the choices they make or we make. But, He will be there to pick us up if we repeat and come back to Him.

It is time we get back to prayer and bible study. I am not talking about the habit of just doing it, but, really and sincerely seeking God.

When we do our lives and our families lives will turn around.

Father God, I Am Yours And You Know Me

(Psalm 139: 1-24) says, ” O Lord, You have searched me and known me. You know my sitting down and my rising up. You understand my thought afar of. You comprehend my path and my lying down. And are acquainted with all my ways. For there is not a word on my tongue. but behold, O Lord, You know it all together. You have hedged me behind and before. And laid Your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me. It is high, I cannot attain it. I cannot go for Your Spirit. I cannot go from your presence. If I ascend into heaven, You are there. If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even Your hand shall lead me. And Your right hand shall hold me. If I say, “Surely the darkness shall fall on me.” Even the night shall be light about me. Indeed, the darkness shall not hide from You. but the night shines as the day, the darkness and the light are both alike You. For You formed my inward parts. You covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well. My frame was not hidden from You, when I was made in secret. And skillfully wrought in lowest parts of the earth. Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written. The days fashioned for me. When as yet there were none of them. How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How great is the sum of them! If I should count them, they would be more in number than the sand. When I awake, I am still with You. Oh that You would slay the wicked, O God! Depart from me, therefore, you bloodthirsty men. For they speak against You wickedly. Your enemies take You name in vain. Do I not hate them, O Lord, who hate You? I hate them with perfect hatred; I count them my enemies. Search me, O God, and know my heart. Try me, and know my anxieties; and see if there is any wicked way in me. And lead me in the way everlasting.

Now let us look at this scripture again. David is calling out to God. He is shouting from the depths of his heart. He is not worrying about what others or even God is going to say to him. He is just crying out. God help me! God rescue me! He is talking one on one with his Heavenly Father.

None of us enjoys going through difficulties. Trials are part of life for the Fathers God’s children as well as all persons who have not excepted salvation.

But, as Father God’s children we have learn to put our trust in Father God during times of difficulty, we continue to see the hand of God and additional growth in our walk with Him. His infinite wisdom and love for us is shown even during the hard times.

We need to do as David. We need trust in the Lord. Trust is the belief in and reliance on the integrity, strength, ability, surety of a person or thing. To trust in the Lord is to believe Him, (that is, to take Him at His word) and to believe absolutely that what He says is true.

Trust in the Lord and not in yourself. Trust in the Lord and not your wealth for financial security. Trust in the Lord and not in your physical strength of your nation’s military prowess for protection. Trust in the Lord and not in political power or connections. Trust in the Lord and not in things you have built.

Feasting In His Presence

When I hear the song In The Presence of Jehovah I feel as if I am being escorted into the very throne room of God; it touches something inside me in a supernatural way. The words express the simple truth, that we can find healing for whatever our need when we get alone with God.

Because God fashioned us, He knows what will minister to our particular need. Without question, He gave this song to the writers that it might tell of Him and His grace.

There is not a need in our life that Father God cannot handle for us.

Father God watches over us, feeds us and is our personal friend. He is Jehovah-Rohi, our Shepherd.

Everyday Father God waits for us to enter into His Presence. Please do not miss a day feasting on the Bread of Life

Is Father God Listening?

Prayer is the means by which we take our perplexities to the Father God. But do you get the feeling that some people have Father God’s listening ear better than you do?

I love the letter the little boy wrote to God in which he admitted he knew God heard prayers, but he wanted to know when God would be listening especially hard to prayers. In other words he was asking God is there a certain day that you handle prayer for different situations?

I think one of the problems we encounter in praying is that we are inclined to dictate to Father God what our preferences are. If we have already made up our minds, we may not hear Him when He speak!

As Mark 4: 23 -24 says, “If any man have ears to hear, let him hear…Take heed what ye hear.”

“Listen to what you hear,” He is saying, “You think there is a shortage of my messages, my answers to your prayers? Unplug your ears!”

Perhaps our biggest problem is not that we haven’t and don’t hear; if we will be honest we might have to confess that we aren’t always ready to listen! We may have heard but we just do not want to obey. We think Father God may have made a mistake. In other words we are saying, “Father God are you sure?”

(Catherine Marshall in her classic Adventures in Prayer speaks of “The Prayer of Relinquishment.” She say, ” A demanding spirit, with self-will as its rudder, blocks prayer….Jesus’ prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane, I come to see, is the pattern for us. Christ could have avoided the cross…. Christ used His free will to turn the decision over to His Father. He said, “Dear Father…all things are possible to you. Let me not have to drink this cup! Yet it is not what I want but what you want.’ She emphasizes that there is no resignation in Prayer of Relinquishment. This kind of praying doesn’t slam the door on hope. It’s called “the pliability of an obedient heart.”)

Sometimes you as I also maybe faced with the problem, Lord, I just do not know how to pray about this problem.

Praise Father God, that is not a problem to Him. Thanks to the Holy Spirit everybody is equal before our Father God in prayer. The Holy Spirit helps us in our weaknesses, in our improper understanding, and conveys from our hearts to Father God’s heart what is really there, that which is impossible for us to put into words anyway!”

Friends, Father God knows our needs before we ever bring them to Him. He is just waiting for us to see if we are ready to turn our life situations over to Him completely.

In other words, “Lord, here I am, I am yours, and I am willing to follow your ways for my life.

“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Proverbs‬ 22:6

“Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine.” 1 Timothy‬ 5:17

A little extra:

It has been so good to hear people of all colors, races and creed say yes, ma’am, no ma’am, bless you and thank you.

I maybe old fashion, but, I require it of our girls, even today.

You never get to old to show respect to your elders.

As a matter of fact, I said thank you sir, to a guy who was in in teens that held a door open for me. You would have thought I had given him a bag of gold with the big smile on his face.Respect is respect.

Age does not matter.

Respect is a expression of love and honor.

If we show respect, we will receive respects.

We must not only teach our children manners, but, they must see us showing good manners.

Children will do as they see.

So, do your children see are hear you calling out to God in Prayer?

I thank Father God every day for all my life, but the last five months before mama had her HomeGoing, my sister Ruby and I had the privilege to hear our mama praying after we got her to bed.

We would hear her praying over the monitor we had in her room. She continually called out to Father God for hear children, grandchildren, friends, church and so many more times ending in a prayer of thanksgiving.

What a glorious memory.

What Does The Bible Say About Women Preachers/Evangelist?

“As for me, Pat, I just laughed when a friend and I was discussing Women Preachers.

So, what does the Bible ready say on the subject? Right off the bat I thought,”why am I as so many women still dealing with this in today’s world?”

I have made a copy of post below for you each to read, study your Bible and let God show you. What better post to share, it was written by a man.

1. There is not one Scripture in the Bible that forbids women
   from preaching, but on the contrary, there are many verses that encourage both men and women to preach the Gospel.
2. The Bible teaches that God is not a respecter of persons, and He will use any and all who will yield to Him, regardless of race, age, or sex.
   Galatians 3:28 – “…neither male nor female…for ye are all one
   in Christ Jesus.”
   Acts 10:34 – “…God is no respecter of persons….”
   Moses said in Numbers 11:29, “Would God that all the Lord’s people were prophets, and that the Lord would put His spirit upon them!”

The crying need of the hour is for more laborers. It is a trick of the enemy to try to down rate thousands of our faithful laborers just because they were born females.

3. The Great Commission, Mark 16:15, “Preach the Gospel,” is to ALL believers, and to all the church of Jesus Christ. The command to “preach the Gospel” is to both male and female.
4. It is an undeniable fact that God has called and anointed thousands of women to preach the Gospel. The Full Gospel organizations have hundreds of licensed and ordained women who are preaching, teaching, evangelizing, pastoring, and doing mission work with the signs following their
   ministry. God is using them for the salvation of the lost, deliverance from sin, gifts of the Spirit, and infilling of the Holy Spirit.

The Bible says, “Touch not mine anointed and do my prophets no harm.” And may we be reminded of the Scripture in Acts 5:39, “If it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against
God.”

When someone says, “God does not call women to preach,” it is like saying that God does not baptize with the Holy Spirit today. We know better, because we have witnessed and experienced it with our own ears and eyes.

I would be afraid to condemn women preachers, lest I would be found to be fighting against God, and to be committing the vile sin of attributing the works of the Holy Spirit to the devil.

5. Women preachers are a fulfillment of Bible Prophecy and another sign of Christ’s soon return to earth.
   Joel 2:28
   28 “And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions. –
   Acts 2:17-18
   17” ‘In the last days, God says,
   I will pour out my Spirit on all people.
   Your sons and daughters will prophesy,
   your young men will see visions,
   your old men will dream dreams.
   18Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy.
6. The Bible declares that women will prophesy: 1 Cor. 11:5, “For every woman that prayed or prophesied….”

Both the Hebrew (Nebrah), and Greek (Prophet) used for prophetess means (female preacher). (See Young’s Concordance, Pg. 780.)

The word “Prophet” means a public expounder.

The word “Prophesy” means to speak forth, or flow forth. The
Bible says in 1 Cor. 14:3, “But he that prophesied speaketh unto MEN to edification, and exhortation and comfort.”

The dictionary says, prophesy is “to speak under divine inspiration…to preach.”
Therefore we learn from the original translation, from the Bible interpretation, and from the dictionary, that to prophesy means more than to tell the future, but it is to speak publicly about the past, present, or future. It is to preach under the anointing of the Holy Spirit.

The Old and New Testament prophets and prophetesses were preachers of God’s Word.

Even if the words prophet and preacher could be separated, how could anyone prophesy to bring exhortation, comfort and edification to the church, if she were forbidden to speak in church and was to keep silent?

Would God inspire and anoint someone to do something that was
wrong and sinful??? * (There is a difference between a prophet, and the gift of prophecy.)

7. God called and used women preachers in the Old Testament.
   a. DEBORAH – Judges 4:4-5. Deborah was a Judge for both civil and criminal cases. The children of Israel came to her for judgment. She was the chief ruler of Israel for 40 years, giving orders to the Generals and all the army. She did the work of an evangelist, prophetess, Judge, and a preacher. God gave her authority over the mighty (Judges 5:13).
   Judges 4: 4 – 5
   4 Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lappidoth, was leading Israel at that time. 5 She held court under the Palm of Deborah between Ramah and Bethel in the hill country of Ephraim, and the Israelites came to her to have their disputes decided.
   b. MIRIAM – Exodus 15:20; Numbers 12:1; Micah 6:4. She was a
   Prophetess and a Song Leader in Israel.
   c. HULDAH – 2 Kings 22:14. Five men went to Sister Huldah and
   communed with her. She spoke to a congregation of men concerning the book of the Law. A female preached to a man’s congregation, and her message was taken to the nation and produced a revival.
   d. MAHER-SHALAL-HASH-BAZ’S MOTHER – Isaiah 8:3. She was a
   prophetess.
8. God called and used women preachers in the New Testament.
   a. The first message of the Resurrection of Christ was spoken by women to a group of men.
   b. Anna – Luke 2:36-38. She must have prophesied in church, because she did not depart from the temple.
   c. Phillip had 4 daughters who prophesied. Acts 21:9.
   d. Priscilla assisted Paul in his revival meeting and even taught Apollos in the way of the Lord more perfectly.
   e. Phebe – Romans 16:1-2. Paul commended Phebe to the Church at Rome and requested that they assist her in her business. She was one ofPaul’s assistants in the work of the Lord and delivered the Book of Romans to the people from the hand of Paul.
9. There is no sound reason why a woman or man should not preach the Gospel. There is a desperate need in the church for more workers.

Laborers are few, and God will use any and all who will go for Him. Some say God will not use a woman to preach, because “The woman was deceived,” but remember Romans 5:12: “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world.” It seems to indicate that Adam was just as guilty as Eve in the fall of man. If anyone should be kept from preaching because of sin, it would be Adam. But God does not forbid anyone from preaching, because of Adam’s or Eve’s sin.

10. 1 Cor. 14: 34-35
    34women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the Law says. 35If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church. This Scripture does not say anything about women preachers.

If Paul intended this verse as a general rule to bar all women from speaking in church, then they cannot teach Sunday School, testify, pray, prophesy, sing, or even get saved, and this would contradict the rest of the Bible
(Acts 2:4; Acts 2:16-18).

Paul was rather dealing with a particular problem in the church.

Women were not educated as were the men in that day; therefore the women would talk back and forth to their husbands in church and ask questions concerning the sermon. Paul said, “If they will learn anything, let them ask their husbands at home; for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.”

If they want to talk things over let them wait until they get home. This rule is still good for the church today, where people are talking and causing confusion in the church service. They should not speak in church. (Note: the back of the church either before or after services.)

If a woman cannot speak in church, then she cannot speak in prayer meeting, young people’s service, etc., for who can deny that Sunday School and Prayer meeting, and Youth work are parts of church? Christ’s Church is not a building, but rather it is found where two or three are gathered together in His name, whether at a street meeting, in a tent, a home, church, classroom or anywhere else.

11. 1 Timothy 2:12 is not a blanket rule for all women of all churches. If it were, then the women could not speak at all, for the same verse that tells them not to teach also tells them to be silent.
    If all women had to keep silent in church, then that would be promoting disobedience to God, for they could not prophesy, pray, testify, sing, exhort, do personal work, or even get saved.
    Whenever an interpretation to a verse contradicts the rest of the teaching of the Bible, we know this interpretation is incorrect, for the Holy Spirit will never contradict His own Word.

This is the chief verse that is used to oppose women preaching and yet it says nothing about preaching, nor does it say anything about a public worship or church service. But, on the contrary, this verse is giving instructions to wives as to how they were to conduct themselves in regard to their husband. Paul says in 1 Cor. 14:35, “And if they will LEARN anything, let them ask their husbands at home.” Now he states in 1 Tim. 2:12 that the woman should learn in silence, and should not usurp authority over the man.

Paul is dealing with more of a home problem than a church problem.
This verse still applies to us today. It is wrong for a woman to usurp authority over her husband (in church, home, or any place else) as was the case in Paul’s day. She should not try to teach him or speak words that would cause discord and confusion, but should rather be silent and in subjection to her husband.

It is also to be understood that if anyone, whether man or woman, is usurping authority over the God-given leadership of the church, she or he is to be silent, and not to teach, or act in such a way that would create discord in the assembly.

12. Some have used Titus 1:6-7, “If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children…”, but there is a difference between a preacher and a bishop. For I was an Evangelist and now am a Pastor, but I am not a Bishop (Overseer), and most Pastors are not.
    If God called a single man with no children to be a Bishop, as Paul was, surely this verse is not opposed to it, nor would this scripture oppose a woman Bishop if she was called of God for the work, as was Deborah.

What this verse does teach is that a person who is to be a Bishop must not have two living companions, either husbands or wives.
The Bible often speaks of “man” when it refers to both men and and women inclusively. The word “mankind” also includes both men and women.

For an example of this word usage see 1 Cor. 13:1 – “Though I speak with the tongues of MEN and angels….” This word “MEN” includes women as well, for we do not have one language for men and another for women.

13. To condemn women preachers and women church workers is a serious offense, because God has stamped His approval on them by His Spirit over and over again, and who is man to fight against the Spirit of God?

To condemn women preachers and women church workers is in a sense to claim they are doing wrong and committing sin…and all those who support them and listen to them are having a part in that sin.

For anyone to do this, he must condemn approximately 99% of all the Spirit-filled believers and the vast majority of all of Christianity.
“Of a truth, I perceive that God is no respecter of persons…”
(Acts 10:34 Then Peter began to speak: “I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism).

Being Thankful While Trying Too Find Your Tail.

Of all the devotions I have written, I get a request so often to repeat this one.

Maybe you must be feeling, you lost your tail?

I think during the last almost two years of disasters, riots, unrest, covid, jobs lost, craziness of the world and having to be stuck in our homes, we all have had to look for our tails.

We need to work together helping each other find our tails.

Isaiah 40:
28 Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary,
and his understanding no one can fathom. 29 He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. 30 Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall;
31 but those who hope in the LORD
will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

Are You Eeyore?

Can you be thankful while trying to find your tail… This have been so busy, I think a couple of days I lost mine.

Have you ever felt like Eeyore. You know the little gray patched up donkey in the Winnie the Pooh series. They lived in a beautiful 100 acre woods Eeyore use to say, “Is my tail still on?” Then he would say, “let’s have a look, and he turned slowly round to the place where his tail had been a little while ago, and then, finding that he couldn’t catch it up, he turned round the other way, until he came back to where he was at first, and then he put his head down and looked between his front legs, and at last he said, with a long, sad sigh, “I believe you’re right, Pooh, it is still there.”

Sometimes I feel the same way, I feel I have lost my tail, and cannot find it. I think that we sometimes go to that 100 acre woods, a beautiful place, but it becomes our gloomy place just like Eeyore.

When you are in that gloomy place it is hard to give praise and thanks when we feel like Eeyore that we have lost our tail.

Even though Eeyore had great compassion for others, and was always trying to help people, he still at times felt, Oh, poor me.

See, he lost his love for life. He some how lost the sense of a positive attitude. His fire had gone out.

In our lives we all at times may think, I am burned out, woe is me. We still truck along trying to do our best, but we have to continually put patches on our lives just to hold us together.

God speaks of this very thing in Revelation chapter two. He tells the church at Ephesus, that He knows all their good deeds, but He is getting a little disappointed in them, because they have lost their first love. “Him.”

Again, I myself sometimes feel tired, even though I keep getting up from being knock down, that my first love is getting depleted from my life. I need to get that fire back, the fire that helps build my faith up. Yes, that is when I need to get down on my knees and look up to God and find my tail.

God promises to give strength to the weary, and I tell you now, I have to stand on that promise.

So, if today, you are feeling like Eeyore, and you have lost your tail, and are sitting in your gloomy place look up to the Heavenly Father.

Yes, get back on your knees, and look up to God and say, “I think you are right God, I still have it together.”

And then begin singing, praising and thanking God and see your life turn around, as we become thankful instead of woe is me.

In others words, you may have to be like Eeyore, turn around, check things out, and see if you may have to let some things go that maybe clouding up your way. The way God wants you to go.

You may as Eeyore, have to get in a downward position on your knees, so God can show you that your tail is still on and your headed in just the way He wants you to go.

You just need to turn around and follow God with Thankfulness and Praise.

Nicodemus

In studying today, I thought of Nicodemus. And the devotion I wrote many years ago.
“I Wonder When Did Nicodemus Believe?

Isaiah 9:2 says, “The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death upon them hath the light shines.”

At John 3:1-3 tells us that Nicodemus first came to Jesus under the cover of darkness, a questioner: “Who are you really? How can a man be born again?” Jesus answered his questions, and raised more. But John does not say that Nicodemus believed.

Perhaps he mulled the questions and answers over, for St. John 7: 50-52, tells us he defended Jesus when other Pharisees accused him: “Does our law judge a man without first giving him a hearing and learning what he does?” But John still does not say he believed.

Then, unexpectedly, St. John 19: 39-40, shows Nicodemus performing an act of great faith. When Joseph of Arimathes took Jesus’ body down from the cross, Nicodemus came with expensive spices and helped anoint the body for burial. According to Hebrew law this made him unclean, he could not celebrate Passover. Further, it publicly identified him with Jesus when even the disciples had fled.

I wonder when Nicodemus decided to believe in Jesus, in a blinding moment, or by a slow process of growth?

John’s way of telling the story of Nicodemus shows me that when we first believe is not what really matters. What matters is that we, like Nicodemus, finally arrive at Jesus, to offer our wealth, our reputation, our entire being and our service.

I wonder, if Nicodemus had come to us by night, we would have like Jesus taken time to answer his questions? Even worse, would we might have just assumed that Nicodemus was was a good person, and he did not need Jesus, because he was already good?

How many people will be in Hell because we did not take the time to talk to them, but, we judge the good are bad situation of their lives incorrectly?

Judging people is a fault in this world today. People read the Facebook, papers and listen to every media outlet, and believe everything that is in it.

I feel that we do not need to judge someone until we walk in their shoes.

Maybe even meet with the person that we are judging and find the true facts about the story. Then we would learned the truth as well as find out that the person just like Nicodemus is doing greater things in the community that is helping people. But, that person needs your love, mercy, grace.

So, before you judge someone, remember God tell us that we should not judge our brother and sister, but lift them up in the Holy Love of God.

Remember one day you may fall, and it just may be the person you have judged and torn down, that will be there to lift you up.

GOD WANTS YOU FREE

I believe every believer who loves God wants to be holy. But not every believer is actually living holy. Many times we have old habits we’ve never overcome, even though we’ve lived with them for years.

If you’ve struggled like this, even for years, I know you can be free. God wants you free, and the Scripture says the truth will make you free. If you continue in the Word of God, it will make you free and you can live holy.

Jesus said in His prayer to the Father “Sanctify them through the truth, the word of truth”( John 17:17)

I don’t care if what’s holding you back is the strongest addiction there is, God will and can set you free. All He needs is your choice, your quality decision that, “No matter what, this is it. I’m leaving bondage behind.”

God is faithful. He’s just waiting on the opportunity to help you. He is a merciful and loving Father. (Jeremiah 15:19) says, “Therefore thus saith the LORD, if thou return, then will I bring thee again, and thou shalt stand before me, and if thou take forth the precious from the vile, thou shalt be as my mouth, let them return unto thee; but return not thus unto them.”

“If thou return…” As a believer, that’s what God’s asking you to do. To draw nigh unto Him and He’ll draw nigh unto you with every deliverance, every blessing, every prosperity that you need. If you’re a person who’s moved away from God, He’s asking you to return. If you’ve never been saved, He’s asking you to come to Him and make Jesus your Lord and Savior.

“The precious from the vile…” He wants us to learn to separate in our lives the precious things that are His from the vile things of this world. God won’t force you to do that. He doesn’t require you to live a life separated unto Him because He wants to be a dictator. NO That’s not God’s way at all.

God wants you to do what He says and walk in His ways because they produce freedom. They produce the best for you. You can’t walk in the ways of the world and be free. God loves you. He wants you to be able to wake up every morning happy, full of joy, with your needs met, your family around you, and no trouble on any side. And He wants you to be free of all those things you’ve struggles with for years.

Accept Father God’s love, salvation, and grace.
