I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

The devotional tonight is simple. Not a taught lesson. Just a thought from my heart.

I have gone to bed tonight, but I am unable to go to sleep. I prayed but still not able to relax. The wheels of my mind turning in different directions.

So much death and disaster in our world. But, I also see people helping people. Neighborhoods coming together. Yes, God is in control.

As I lay here I have started thinking of the old hymn. “Leaning on the Everlasting Arms.”

This words of this great hymn was written by: Elisha A. Hoffman in
1887.
Music by: Anthony J. Showalter, circa 1900.

Showalter wrote this tune and words to the refrain after hearing from two friends whose wives had died, and asked Hoffman to write the rest of the lyrics.

I want to share with you the words of this great hymn.

“Leaning on the Everlasting Arms”

What a fellowship, what a joy divine,
Leaning on the everlasting arms;
What a blessedness, what a peace is mine,
Leaning on the everlastings arms.

O how sweet to walk in this pilgrim way,
Leaning on the everlasting arms;
O how bright the path grows from day to day,
Leaning on the everlasting arms.

What have I to dread, what have I to fear,
Leaning on the everlasting arms;
I have blessed peace with my Lord so near,
Leaning on the everlastings arms.

Leaning, leaning,
Safe and secure from all alarms;
Leaning, leaning
Leaning on the everlasting arms.

I can say, I did not start thinking about this old hymn out of the blue. It was a God Wink.

I know that God through the Holy Spirit laid the words of this song on my heart.
He was letting me know that as long as I lean on Jesus everything will be alright.

We all need to learn to lean on Jesus.

We need to lean on those
everlasting arms. And as the songs says, “What a fellowship, what a joy
divine, what a peace of mind, with no dread, with no fear, I have blessed peace, because my Lord is near, Leaning on those everlasting arms.

I hope that as you read these words that you now also will lay all your troubles and worry in the arms of Jesus.

Devotion Written By: Pastor Pat Aman Book © 1996/2020, “Coffee With Pat Daily Devotionals” and Westbow Press a division of Thomas Nelson

I Have No Fear Author: Pat Aman Isaiah 41:10 So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
